This was a letter St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny sent home to the parents of a youth baseball team he was coaching before the season. It hit every major topic that a youth coach has to deal with in any season they might coach. Parents can be a very positive part of the youth sport experience, and the majority of the time they are, but this type of communication at the beginning of the season can very helpful. If a coach lays out what his/her philosophy and team rules are up front it usually leads to less questions and confusion during the season. There are many parts to this letter that could be helpful to a new coach or one looking to set some guidelines for their upcoming season.
